SATORP In Brief
|
On June 22, 2009, Saudi Aramco and the international petroleum company Total signed the partnership and other basic agreements necessary for establishing their joint venture SAUDI ARAMCO TOTAL Refining & Petrochemical Company (SATORP). |
|
|
|
SATORP will build a world-class refinery with a refining capacity of 400,000 barrels per day (bpd) to process Arabian Heavy crude oil into high-value refined products of the best specifications to meet growing world demand for these products. |
| |
The refinery is scheduled to start operation by the end of 2013 and produce diesel, jet fuel, and gasoline; in addition, it will produce petrochemicals, like paraxylene, aromatic benzene, and propylene. |
| |
The refinery’s design configuration will incorporate an integration process between fuels and petrochemicals that guarantees adequate flexibility for easy transformation between the different products as needed and optimized to the best value available in the market. |
| |
Saudi Aramco and Total will jointly market the products from the refinery, a facility that will contribute significantly to the refining and petrochemical industries infrastructure in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. |
| |
The new refinery will use state-of-the art, competitive industrial technologies, the most important of which being the deep conversion technology that will enable the facility to produce a high percentage of light products and value-added petrochemicals. |
